Sunday Was Formula Drift Asia round 1. After a few small issues with the power steering we got to the track nice & early to see what we could do. We changed the pump & fluid only to find the problem was still there. With only 2 laps of practice the DriftKid had to go & do his single Qualifying lap. On that lap he lost all power steering & had a half spin which put him in the 2nd tear of qualifying fighting for the last 8 spots.
With no time to fix the issue the DriftKid went out & Man handled the VE SS Drift Ute & took the Number 13 spot.
Believe it or not we started looking on the web for a Power steering rack close to calder park & found one on Gumtree 40 minutes away. After a very spirited drive from one of our team members we had the rack back at the track 10 minutes before the 1/2 hour practice session started. 15 Minutes later the rack was in & we sent the DriftKid out to get some much needed seat time on this new layout.
Our first battle was with Frederic Aasbo in his insane Nascar powered FT 86. This was always going to be a David vs Goliath battle but the DriftKid gave it his all.
The chase lap was the first time the DrifKid had done a tandem on this track & it was a million dollar car he was going to be rubbing. The chase lap was magic as he got on Aasbo's door on the first corner & never left it all the way to the finish line. The DriftKids lead lap put a gap between him & Aasbo & Aasbo never got the gap closed. Aasbo was awarded the win due to the DrfitKid missing the first inner clip on his chase lap & the Inside clip on his Lead lap. It was truly a inspiring run & had the crowd on their feet cheering for the Kid in the Commodore. Congratulation's Nick Coulson top effort.
