What an AMAZING effort from the DriftKid this week end. HOT HOT HOT !!!!
Parkland's -- was a terrific track with some real feirce competitors and as the battles went all day, the DriftKid plowed through them all. The first lap of never driving the track and he had it down with in the end of that lap. Some had some awesome power and others looked fantastic, but DriftKid stayed consistent and place 3rd at the end of the day on the points board.
QR -- Even hotter then Parkland's, the drivers were sweltering in their vehicles whilst waiting for the battles to form. With another 8 rounds in the heat and cars temperatures rising, DriftKid showed that being consistent is his virtue. He was amazing, some of these vehicles had twice, if not three times the amount of power Nick has and he still held his own and battled one after the other showing them he is a huge competitor and placing 2nd over all for the week end qualifying.
This was am astonishing effort on tracks he does not have much experience with. All though DriftKid has raced QR, never has he battled on this track.
So placing 2nd in qualifying, was a real achievement for the DriftKid and Team JNC.
As the whole week end was battles for qualifying and DriftKid placed 2nd, it now came down to 4 vehicles and 2 battles each. DriftKid battled Razzor - one of the quickest cars I saw on the track and he was placing 3rd in qualify. DriftKid had bald tyres and was left with no choice but to change tyres on the most important battle 2 minutes before the battle was to start. No practice, no warm up and it showed as DriftKid took to his normal start and lost it on turn 1, giving Razzor the upper edge and sliding right past the DriftKid. Nick held his own as the lead car with this battle but just wasn't enough to get him through because of his spin. He then battled for 3rd and 4th place against Grant in the corolla and Grant took it out by a margin, leaving Nick with 4th place for the King of Drifts 2009.
Now to the damage - Parkland's - On the expression of interest (play time) all the level 2's decided a train drift would be a great show stopper so they could show the spectators what there made of. So they leave with a bang in reverse track and come turn one, first car spins out, 2nd car pulls up and DriftKid shows his nose over the crest only to see the weslide car right there STOPPED - DriftKid continues to slide and kisses the weslide car side on and then car 4 comes over the crest only to do the same thing into the DriftKid. 3 car pile up with the DriftKid in the middle and panel damage down both sides. Mechanically only the steering was pushed off line a little and Team JNC kicked out some guards and the Kid was ready to race again the next day at QR. This was not the end of the damage though. With only 4 battles to go at the end of the day at QR, DriftKid comes in with smoke bellowing out from the bonnet and lifts it to find engine blow by, with a coke bottle mounted in the engine bay as a temporarily catch can, this fixed it to make do for the remaining battles. Team effort from all other Drifters to keep DriftKid in the game is fantastic. Thanks to the boys whom helped us. Then with a later find of a cracked inter cooler and split radiator, the sayn QR KILLS CARS is ringing true to the Legendary DriftKid's Skyline.
An absolutely amazing effort from the DriftKid - 16 now - where will he be at 17..
