The Australian Drifting Grand Prix was help last Saturday in typical Qld summer conditions .... Bloody Hot !!!!
The day was a scorcher with temps rising above 36deg in the shade with both cars & drivers suffering.
It was great to be at our home track and even got Nick over to the spectator area to have lunch with his Family & Friends.
Back on track Nick put some great qualifying laps in to get the number 5 spot for battles and received a bye run in the top 32.
Top 16 time was against fellow +Achilles Radial Driver Rob Whyte in his Nascar powered 370z.
Nick being the higher qualifier lead fist with a text book lead run giving the run a slight advantage towards Nick.
On the switch around Rob wasn't about to let the Kid get the better of him (again) and did his very best but the judges couldn't split them & called the run again. Re-Run Time!!!
These two guys have probably done battle against each other more times than any other competitor in the competition over the last 5 years.
Unfortunately this is where the day ended for the DriftKid.
Whilst in the pits changing tyres for the re-run the Ute's battery decided the heat was just too much and died causing the computer to go into limp mode for a period of time.
With no time to spare Nick tried valiantly to make his beast work with the issue but it just simply didn't have the power to continue.
Fellow Achilles driver Rob Whyte went on to finish the day in 1st place and saved the day for Team Achilles & the Queenslanders home track pride.
We will let you know soon when the TV Show will be aired on 7Mate
Next we are off to Perth, Western Australia for the final round of the series as one of the support categories at the +V8 Supercars at Barbagallo Raceway.
Bring on the FINAL!!!!!!
